"WHAT'S IN YOUR ATTIC?" - Save the Date of Saturday, October 17, 2015 for this exciting event organized by The Friends of the Red Bank Public Library, in conjunction with River Bank Antiques & Interiors. Our experts will advise you on the history, age and approximate value of your antiques and collectibles. Tickets will be available at the Library after September 1 for $20 each. The ticket price includes admission, the evaluation of one (1) item, seasonal refreshments, live bluegrass music by the river and a chance to win door prizes. Attendees can bring up to three (3) additional objects for evaluation for $5 per item. A series of brief free lectures about specific areas of antiques, collectibles and local historic preservation efforts will take place throughout the afternoon in the Library’s magnificent Eisner Room.
In addition, the Red Bank Public Library is sponsoring a Digital Preservation Event from 12- 2:00pm that same day. Digital Memory Media (a Division of Innovative Document Imaging LLP) will be on site in order to help library patrons preserve personal collections of print, photographs, slides and audio-visual material including VHS videos, 8mm and 16mm movies. DMM is a leading provider of digital imaging services to provide digital preservation services to patrons. Once exclusive to industry, Digital Memory Media brings secure, professional preservation services to individuals at an affordable price. Twenty percent of all proceeds from the digital preservation event will be credited to the Red Bank Public Library. Look for posters and flyers in September. And start looking in your attic (or wherever your treasures are stored)! We can't wait to see What's In Your Attic.
On June 24, 2015, the Friends of the Red Bank Public Library hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in the Eisner Room and Terrace at the library. Members of the library staff and board of trustees also attended this annual event, which celebrates and recognizes the generosity and dedication of all the Red Bank Public Library Volunteers. Sue Goldberg: Winner of the Friends 2015 "Volunteer of the Year" Award
Sue Goldberg has been volunteering for the Library since November 2011 and has been instrumental in helping with so many things we do and have done at the Library. As many volunteers, Sue, a retired teacher and volunteer also for the Bronx Zoo, started at the RBPL by learning how to page and read our shelves. When we held our 75th party for the Library, Sue spent endless hours here helping to prepare the exhibits for our celebration. In 2013, Sue took over putting our monthly displays together and helping with book displays. She started scanning the newspapers to collect items that were noteworthy about the Library and collecting things happening in the community. She has been a major help in the NJ History Room. Sue Goldberg is a dedicated volunteer whose attention to details has made our Library a better place for both patrons and staff. We are lucky to have her and all our committed volunteers who work so hard – without whom we could never achieve all the things that we do.
The Friends of the Red Bank Public Library was established in 2009 by a small, dedicated group of library lovers. Members share a belief in the important role our library plays in the life of the entire community.
If you are interested in joining our group, fill out the form on the back of our Membership Brochure and give it to a library staff member at the Circulation Desk. Memberships start at $15 per year.
