I Can Stem: Celebrating Women in STEM

About

The Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) has named the Red Bank Public Library a recipient of the IF/THEN® Gender Equity Grants. Through the support of IF/THEN®, an initiative of Lyda Hill Philanthropies®, the Red Bank Public Library will run the RAD Lab: I Can Stem: Celebrating Women in Stem program. This programming is part of a national initiative that seeks to address gender equity in gender representation in museums, public libraries, science centers, zoos, aquariums, public gardens, and other cultural institutions across the United States.

The RAD LAB I Can Stem: Celebrating Women In Stem program consists of three components:

  • An interactive display component on exhibit at Red Bank Public Library, Red Bank Public Schools, Red Bank Charter School, and Red Bank Borough Hall. The interactive display highlights numerous If/Them Ambassadors and expands through patron participation.

  • Patrons participating in our RAD Lab Story Time programming from April 15th - September 16th can pose at the “This is What A Scientist Looks Like” Selfie Station to have themselves added to the display. Our RAD Lab Story Times will feature a story and stem activity. Patrons can also participate at home by picking up RAD Lab I Can Stem: Celebrating Women in Stem Make and Take Kits and include photos from their home labs with mom and dad’s permission and using the hashtags #ifthenshecan #thisiswhatascientistlookslike #rbpl

  • This webpage includes information on high-profile role models for girls and young women in STEM from the AAAS IF/THEN® Ambassadors program, instructions to recreate lab activities at home, and a supplemental reading list.
