Welcome a vibrant new season with an energetic new artist: Elena Samarsky

During the months of May and June, RBPL is hosting the fearless and vibrant artwork of Dr. Elena Samarsky, a self-taught artist working in expressive abstraction. Raised in Ukraine, Elena's work is shaped by Eastern European avant-garde traditions, drawing inspiration from Kazimir Malevich and Marc Chagall. Through bold color, energetic gesture, and layered movement, she creates immersive compositions that evoke emotion and spatial depth.

Since earning her PhD in sociology in 2020, Elena has worked as a full-time artist, participating in residencies across Europe and the United States. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in literary journals, on book covers, and billboards.  In 2021, Elena collaborated with Kansas poet Timothy Tarkelly on the art and poetry book, "All Other Forms of Expression".

Be sure to stop by the library to enjoy this exciting exhibit!
